Vegetable and fruit consumption in Indonesia remains relatively low, with approximately 95.4% of the population not meeting the recommended intake and the highest prevalence observed among adolescents (98.4%). Digital communication has emerged as an innovative strategy to increase public awareness of the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits through various technological platforms. This study aimed to analyze the influence of digital communication on awareness of vegetable and fruit consumption based on recent scientific evidence in Indonesia. A literature review approach was employed by examining 10 scientific articles published between 2017 and 2024, covering various digital communication media such as websites, mobile applications, digital flipcharts, digital comics, and educational games targeting different age groups. The findings indicate that digital communication is effective in improving knowledge and awareness regarding vegetable and fruit consumption. Digital flipcharts increased knowledge by 28.23% (p=0.000), Android-based applications improved knowledge scores from 40.33 to 48.00 (p=0.000), and digital comics increased knowledge scores from 45.5 to 70.9. Furthermore, a systematic review demonstrated that web-based interventions significantly influenced vegetable and fruit consumption among adolescents. However, evidence regarding actual behavioral changes remains inconsistent, with most studies reporting non-significant results. In conclusion, digital communication is effective in enhancing awareness and knowledge about vegetable and fruit consumption, although increased knowledge does not automatically lead to behavioral change. Therefore, sustainable interventions integrated with family involvement, school policies, and environmental support are needed to encourage healthier eating habits, while the combination of multiple digital platforms may be more effective than relying on a single-platform approach.
